Understanding Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Funding
Funding for SRTS projects can come from many different sources. However one common source of funding is the Federal SRTS program. It is important to understand that Federal SRTS funds are administered by each State. To access those funds, you need to learn about your own State's funding process.
- Find out more information about your State's SRTS program.
- Download a list of eligible funding activities related to law enforcement.
- Need more ideas? Develop your SRTS program with little or no funding or with funding from local sources.
State money from Section 402 funding may also be suitable for use for non-infrastructure related activities, including education and enforcement. For more information on Section 402 Legislation, see the Highway Safety Act of 1966, 23 USC, Chapter 4: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/nhtsa/whatsup/TEA21/GrantMan/HTML/07_Sect402Leg23USC_Chap4.html
